Action Plan
- Conduct an online anonymous survey to gauge residents' perception of safety in relation to local gun violence and homicides, and receive feedback on key issues, contributing factors, strategies, and initiatives to address this issue
- Produce messaging and promotional materials to engage the target audience in an online survey
- Work with local partners to identify youth and community groups to engage in in-depth interviews and listening sessions
- Use survey findings to create and conduct in-depth interviews with at-risk and impacted youth in Leon County to deepen understanding and insights on key issues, contributing factors, strategies and initiatives
- Work with community groups in Leon County to conduct listening sessions where key issues, contributing factors, strategies and initiatives can be identified and defined
- Gather and analyze findings from all three research methods and produce a robust report with key themes and overall findings for The Council On The Status Of Men & Boys and partners to develop an action plan to tackle gun violence and homicides in Leon County
Results
- Conducted an online survey of Tallahassee and Leon County residents aged 18 years or older via online promotion, television promotion, radio promotion, word of mouth and community outreach, receiving 668 responses with the majority of zip codes represented
- Engaged a wide range of community members in five listening sessions where feedback about local gun violence and homicides was gathered
- Worked with trusted local figures to conduct seven in-depth interviews with young men at the Ghazvini Learning Center
- Identified local perceptions of safety, gun violence and homicides in Leon County
- Analyzed findings to identify common themes of contributing factors and potential solutions to curb gun violence and homicides in Leon County
- Produced an easy to read report with key findings and data from all three research methods
- Presented findings to the community through an informal meeting with community partners and a formal press conference with key leadership and media
