Action Plan

  • To attract reporters covering the legislative session, identify newsworthy opportunities and pitch key ‘media moments’ happening throughout Children’s Week in Florida’s Capitol
  • Generate media coverage in advance of Children’s Week to increase awareness of the events among policymakers and influencers during the legislative session
  • Make it easy for reporters to cover Children’s Week events by producing a media kit with videos, photos, and quotes from partners, child advocates, award recipients, legislators, and elected officials 
  • Leverage the Children’s Forum and partner social and digital media channels to expand media coverage about Children’s Week across the state

Results

  • Identified five ‘media moments’ throughout the week and generated media coverage of each activity 
  • Secured two media placements ahead of Children’s Week — a preview story on Tallahassee’s top television news station featured the Children’s Forum CEO and an article in Florida’s top media outlet for government and politics highlighted legislators and state officials participating in the week of activities. 
  • Placed a joint opinion piece by the Children’s Forum CEO and a Senior VP of the Florida Chamber Foundation on the importance of Children’s Week and the critical need for high-quality early learning programs
  • Secured television news and print media coverage in 20 outlets in five major media markets with an estimated digital reach of 129.84 million across Florida
