News Service of Florida recognizes 50 individuals over 50 years old as Florida’s most accomplished leaders

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – April Salter, APR, CPRC, founder and CEO of SalterMitchell PR, has been recognized on the 50 Over 50 List from News Service of Florida. 

The list recognizes fifty of the most accomplished leaders over the age of 50 for their achievements and service in Florida government, business, media and advocacy. 

“It’s such an honor to make the ‘50 Over 50’ list and be recognized alongside so many extraordinary Floridians,” said Salter. “I’ve centered my life's work around supporting the people and causes that make Florida stronger.”

A nationally recognized senior communications counselor and crisis expert, Salter worked for eight years in key state agencies such as the Department of Environmental Protection, the former Florida Department of Commerce and as communications director to Governor Lawton Chiles. This laid the foundation for her expertise and knowledge, ultimately leading her to establish her own public relations firm and, later, become a founding member of the Croft Society, a national roundtable of PR agency CEOs.

Throughout her career, she has led numerous award-winning public awareness and engagement campaigns that support Florida-focused policies and priorities. In recent years, she has advised public and private sector leaders on high-profile issues, including navigating statewide efforts such as post-Hurricane Michael recovery and the COVID-19 response. 

Salter also holds positions on the executive committees of both the International Rhino Foundation and the Florida Public Relations Association.

News Service of Florida, the state’s largest Capitol news team, will present the award at its inaugural reception on Wednesday, April 16, at the Doubletree by Hilton in Tallahassee. The digital issue of the 50 over 50 list can be found here.
