2024 marks 25 years in business for SalterMitchell PR (SMPR), an award-winning communications consultancy focused on helping good causes and clients win. Founder and CEO April Salter established the firm in 1999 after serving as the communications director for Florida Governor Lawton Chiles. Today, the firm’s clients include Fortune 500 companies, businesses, state agencies, nonprofits and associations. 

In 2022, SMPR was recognized as one of the fastest growing private companies in America on the annual Inc. 5000 list. In addition, the firm was recently recognized in the Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Florida. Both April and the firm’s President Heidi Otway serve on local, national and international boards to support the public relations industry, businesses and causes. 

In honor of the 25th anniversary, Salter appeared as a guest on the 100th episode of the firm’s Fluent in Floridian podcast, which has interviewed some of Florida’s most notable leaders. In her conversation with Otway, she reminisces on her idyllic upbringing in Key West, her dynamic career as a PR professional, and lessons she’s learned as an entrepreneur.
